U.K. Stocks Retreat After Five-Day Rally - 2009/12/30 20:11
Hello guys. U.K. stocks retreated after the longest winning streak since September pushed the FTSE 100 Index to a 15-month high.
Basic-resource producers, which have posted the biggest gains in Europe this year, led declines. Rio Tinto Group, the world’s third-largest mining company, fell 1.5 percent. Randgold Resources Ltd., a producer of gold in Mali, slid 1 percent as the precious metal fell for a second day.
The benchmark FTSE 100 dropped 18.93, or 0.4 percent, to 5,418.68 at 10:38 a.m. in London, after five days of gains. The FTSE All-Share Index decreased 0.3 percent, while Ireland’s ISEQ Index retreated 0.4 percent.
The FTSE 100 has rebounded 54 percent since March 3 as central banks cut interest rates to record lows and governments worldwide committed about $12 trillion to revive the economy. The index yesterday became the first equity market among the biggest developed economies to recover its loss from Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.’s collapse in September 2008.
