The Euro (symbol €) is the official currency of European Union (EU) member states (per US dollar).

Around 329 million people live in the 16 countries (EU member states) where the euro is the official currency . The Euro is also accepted as legal tender, and for other purposes, by many other countries in Europe and also former colonies.

The euro is now the second most important international currency after the dollar, and has even overtaken it in terms of the value of cash in circulation.
