Learn about markets and trading

Please read the following text, then complete training modules 1-3 in order.

Why trade the markets ?

There are many companies and organisations which need to trade on the financial markets as part of their business, buying and selling products as necessary. However, there are lots of other organisations and individual people who buy and sell financial products purely to profit from price fluctuations.

If you have a high interest bank account or a managed long-term savings plan, your money may already be used for trading. The money may form part of a larger fund which is used to trade the markets to raise more cash for you, your bank and other investors.

Take greater control on your finances

But instead of trading in this ‘passive’ way, you might also consider taking a more active role in helping your money grow, by trading on the financial markets yourself. While trading is generally riskier than leaving money in a bank, it does give you the opportunity to earn more money than you would otherwise gain through interest on your savings.

Enjoy the trading experience

Trading isn’t just for 'professionals'. With a little study and practice, you can develop your trading skills and learn how to minimise your risks, and it can be a rewarding way for you to make better returns on your cash. But remember that trading could also lead to losses, so you should only trade with money you can afford to lose.
