U.K. stocks swung between gains and losses as concern Britain’s recession is deepening overshadowed a rally in mining companies.

The FTSE 100 Index slipped 0.3 percent, to 3,887.35 at 1:20 p.m. in London, having swung between gains and losses at least 20 times. The FTSE All-Share Index fell 0.3 percent, while Ireland’s ISEQ Index slid 0.6 percent.
