Hi xcari,
The symbol you see on the trader screen as currency it's the symbol for our playmoney, the "GNU". Playmoney is used by the player in order to experience and learn markets before risking real cash. Playmoney is totally free, and it can be replenished if the player runs out of it.
If you make a deposit of real money, you can quickly switch accounts in the trader screen in the "Accounts" box. (http://www.gnutrade.com/gnutrader_training/accounts.html)
